Black eyed peas scream Southern comfort to me. Most people eat them only one time a year, because they think it will bring them luck.
Or is it wealth?
Or health?
I don’t know all the hoopla! Who cares, eat them when you want because they are tasty!

Ingredients:
1 lb dried black eyed peas
1 cup chopped bacon
2 cups diced onions
1 stalk diced celery
1 heaping tbsp slap ya mama original seasoning
3 bay leaves
1/4-1/2 tsp ground thyme
32 oz chicken broth
6 cups water
Directions:
Soak dry beans overnight
Drain water the next day
In a large pot, sautee the chopped bacon
Add onions and celery and cook them down a few minutes until soft
Add chicken broth, beans and water
Add spices
Bring to a boil and then turn the heat down
Simmer for about 2 hours until beans are nice and soft
